Welcome to my new Tinnitus Blog

My name is Thomas, and I have Tinnitus since 2001. While originally being very bad, it has decreased however over the years and is now so weak that it is hardly noticeable anymore. It has not been a problem anymore for several years now. I have published my experiences already for many years on my site Tinnitus Advice and Tips for a Treatment and Cure and for a few years this has now been supplemented by a Tinnitus Forum. With the present blog, I intend to separately cover some topics in a more detailed fashion than I could to it on the aforementioned sites. The blog format is quite ideal for covering tinnitus related issues, because tinnitus is not so well researched as yet that it could be represented in a systematic way. So I hope this will be a valuable addition to the other formats above. I intend to post a new entry evry 1-2 weeks or so, but generally speaking it will be on an irregular basis as my time allows. Thanks again Thomas for your contribution. Looking forward to new info as they become available. Has anybody mentioned that swimming underwater and muscle strengthening excercises have negative impact on tinnitus? Vic

Hi Vic, Thanks for your comment. Yes, some people have problems with physical activity, but for others it brings actually relief. For me personally it was actually changeable: for the first 12 months or so sports tended to aggravate my tinnitus, but later on it was beneficial and calmed it down. So it can depend on the person as well as the stage of the tinnitus. As for underwater swimming: the water pressure on the ears could cause problems here, so one should probably avoid this for a while. In any case, if you are sure that something aggravates the condition, it is always best to avoid for some time. Thomas

I have contius tinntus and have had it for 5 years or more I take a small amount of alcohol little salt in my food THE condition is a contius hiss puntuated by loud screems like a jet engine what do you recomend ? keith

Hi Keith, Have you tried it for a while without any alcohol (also caffeine)? Also, what other measures did you apply to reduce the tinnitus? Did you try the occasional painkiller (Paracetamol or Aspirin) to improve things? Thomas

I got tinnitus five years ago and didn't find any treatment that can help me..it is a terrible thing..

Hi Kim, Thank you for your comment. I know it can be difficult to get the condition under control, but you should not give up trying it. The error many people make is to expect a complete cure within a short time. From my own experience I can say that aiming at a stepwise gradual improvement is much more promising. Kim, I have had Tinnutis for 2 years and yes, it is unpleasant. I have noticed Vitamin A tablets ( 1 a day) help and so too do Antioxidants. For example, Green Tea, blueberries, strawberries, carrots, etc. I have to limit my caffeine intake too. good luck! Diana

Hi, thank you for all this info on tinnitus. Mine seems to come and go - and has done so for the last 6-8mts. I've noticed that when I'm very tired or anxious the hissing sound increases, I'm also wondering whether it is associated with tension in the neck/shoulder muscles and those narrow muscles that travel uptoward the ear? Would massage or ostoeophathy help? Thanks again for all your info - its reassuring. I'll keep off caffein and try the fruit herbs teas that Diana has suggested. Fiona

Hi Fiona, I know of some people where treatment of neck/shoulder tensions have helped. It is not exactly clear why, but in the light of the new research results that I mentioned in my last post, it is quite plausible, as the neck shoulder region is not too far from the brain stem (which is right ar the top of your spine where all the nerves enter the brain), and this is the region which has been identified in this research as the source of the tinnitus. I also have found initially that when i turned my head to the right, with my jaw closed or open there was an instant tinnitus produced on that side of the ear or brain.other movements do not produce it. what is that, the dr's have had no idea. thanks Rose

Hi! I don't know if this homepage is still active. But I have developed tinnitus the last couple of weeks. It went from being there and going back and forth. It is a high frequent sound o S. Sounds like a chainsaw in distance. I had burn out in feb 17 with depression. I also I have been diagnosed with osteocleros in my right ear. It happened in summer 2015. I had it checked in March 2016! But I thought nothing on it to follow up! Anyway in apr17 I was diagnosed and with -30db. My sound left ear -10db. I have no idea if it is stressrelated or to do osteocleros. Stress! Sure. I am stressed now so how do you not stress! If my right ear is causing it I have a Good chance of since experience show it is can by operation disappear. I have had low vitamin b12 and b4 levels. I am heavy coffee drinker. Salt spicy food. I will try to reduce that intake. Enough said and I just felt the noise went done to a one level being three this morning. The last two days it's been constant. But on Saturday attending as a spectator the noise level went away for an hour or two. Anyway it's been there for couple of weeks now. Br/Allan

Hi Allan, Yes, the blog is still active, although there have not been new entries recently. I set it up mostly as a source of information anyway, and most of the relevant issues I have covered already in previous posts in the last few years. But I have been thinking about writing a new one soon already. In order to improve the condition you should definitely try to change your nutrition in particular Reduce/avoid caffeine and salt. Vitamin B supplements can also help. For more info and tips just read some more posts in this blog, on my tinnitus home page http://www.mytinnitus.de/ or in my forum http://forum.mytinnitus.de/en/ . Most importantly, don't panic but try to stay calm and approach the problem on a day to day basis. Tinnitus is not dangerous as such but merely an (admittedly somewhat annoying) nervous condition that will calm down again with time given the right conditions (although it can take a while) Thomas
